Urgent upgrades needed at the Springs Civic Centre, licensing department

The majority of the damage is outside the licensing department which sees hundreds of people walking through everyday.

Motorists and residents alike were outraged by the state of decay at the civic centre.

Local resident Johan Kruger says, “when I first saw it, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“This cannot be ignored for any longer.

“After what happened at that high school, I feel like I would have blood on my hands if something bad happened and I didn’t report it,” says Kruger.

The majority of the damage is outside the licensing department which sees hundreds of people walking through it every day.

There is water damage on the ceiling, mould and the paint is peeling off the walls.

Ward councillor Thulani Simelane says there was some confusion over who was supposed to maintain the building but that has now been sorted out.

“We had our budget meeting last week, and there is money that has been allocated to fix the building and work should start soon,” says Simelane.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
