Hiring criteria at Daggafontein Mega City Project explained

It is the smme’s that will hire people from the existing database as the construction progresses.

The Daggafontien Mega City has broken ground and the contractors have started with the earthworks.

However, residents in the area say they have not been made aware of the employment opportunities available nor have they been told about the hiring criteria.

Ward Clr Shadow Shabangu clarified the issue and says there are three different levels in the operation.

“The developer is Rodesh, who have employed Torro Africa as their main contractor.

“It is the main contractor who then employs Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise (smme’s) as and when they need them.

“As it stands, the smme’s are the ones who have built offices, supply plant, security on site, toilets and building materials,” says Shabangu.

It is the smme’s that will hire people from the existing database as the construction progresses.

For people or their business to be on the database, they can drop of their CVs or company profiles at the site office.

“For those who are illiterate, they must ask for me (Thulani Dube – community liaison officer) and I will register them on the database.

“They are also welcome to ask for my number if I am not around, but usually, I am available from 8am until 3pm,” says Dube.

Dube went on to say they have had no problems from the community and are on track.

“We also have a monthly meeting with smme’s on Saturdays and a residential committee meeting as well,” says Shabangu.
