Welgedacht learner left without a school for the new academic year

Since then, he has not heard from the district office or the schools.

A learner, who should have started Grade One yesterday (Wednesday), has been left in limbo after the Department of Education did not place her in a school for the new academic year.

Her father says,“I applied online as we were told and submitted the documents and forms and everything was verified by April last year.

“I then went to the two schools I had applied to and they informed me they had received my applications but could not give me an answer as they were waiting for permission from the district office.”

The father says he then went to the district office in July last year where he alleges he was told that they were waiting for permission from the provincial office to place the little girl at one of the schools as he applied to schools that were not in the area he lives in.

The father and the child live in Welgedacht.

Since then, he has not heard from the district office or the schools.

“Schools are a week away from opening and I don’t know know which school uniform or stationery to buy,” he said last week.

“My child is going to do Grade One and we have now been left in limbo,” says the father.

The Department of Education failed to respond in time for publication.
