Two men arrested after police find counterfeit money

When questioned by the police, the suspect said the notes did not belong to him but rather to another man he knew who used the money to buy gold from illegal miners.

A tip-off led police to a Welgedacht house where a suspect was found with counterfeit money, as well a substantial amount of drugs, last Friday morning.

Four policemen from the Springs Visible Policing Unit arrived at the house just after 6am and found the suspect, his wife and two children.

Upon searching the main bedroom, the police found a bag full of counterfeit R100 notes.

The police found more counterfeit money in the lady’s wallet, approximately R2 000.

When questioned by the police, the suspect said the notes did not belong to him but rather to another man he knew who used the money to buy gold from illegal miners.

The police also found what appeared to be rocks, with traces of gold, inside the house.

Another man who was found living in the outside room said he had no knowledge of the money or the rocks.

The rocks were confiscated for testing.
