KwaThema youth empowered through fashion

Three youths from KwaThema use their passion for fashion to get ahead.

KwaThema – Qualified chef, fashion designer and singer Pam Faku and the Buddah Brothers found their calling in fashion, and is using it to empower themselves and to help those around them.

Faku, who went through a period of depression after realising the career she found herself in was not making her happy, says: “I was going through a dark phase in my life when I came across a sewing machine and found my happiness.”

She says it is important for one to take notice of their interests and to follow them. She encourages the youth, especially women, to find their mission and follow their dreams.

“Don’t be ashamed of changing your career – even if your family doesn’t support you,” she said.

She mentioned the importance of hard work, saying in the pursuit of passion it is important to always do your best and make your point to prove to yourself and naysayers that you can do it.

Her career change has not only empowered her, but those around her too. Faku donates garments to matric learners who cannot afford matric dance outfits.
