Life Springs Parkland Hospital wins Best Maternity Unit Award

The Life Springs Parkland St Mary’s Unity has won the Best Maternity Unit for 2018 at the Life Achiever Awards.

The local hospital was crowned the best, beating other hospitals in the Life Healthcare Group who were participating in the Better OBS initiative.

Unit manager, Sister Thobile Mabaso, says the award was the result of a lot of hard work which included monthly drills for the unit to prepare for any situation that can arise during the labour process.

“We’re excited. It means we are doing something right and this will encourage us as a unit to maintain our standard of care while drawing more patients to us,” says Mabaso.

Nursing manager Sophie Sibisi added that the award showed the quality of care midwives were providing and their commitment to mother-and-child care.

The hospital will also be proving free antenatal classes on Saturday at 9.30am and expectant mothers who are over the 12-week period are encouraged to bring their partners along.
