WEB HEADLINE: Veritas College crowned quiz champions
On August 14, two Veritas College High School Quiz teams embarked on their journey to stardom.
At the regional finals of the Star National High Schools Quiz, Team 1 took the trophy as the 2018 Champions of the regional section of the High School Quiz.
Sponsored by IIE Varsity College, in partnership with Independent Media, the objective of the quiz is to nurture within the youth a hunger for discovery and a broad perspective on the status quo of South Africa and the world.
The quiz focused on issues dealt with in the Star newspaper: current affairs, politics, entertainment, sport and business. Veritas College achieved 100 per cent in two of the sections to take the win over the other 14 schools from the greater Johannesburg area at the regional final.
Veritas College proved themselves against the crème de la crème of high schools, winning a generous R20 000 for the school, a life-changing R75 000 bursary for a deserving matric student who will be studying at Varsity College in 2019, individual cash prizes of R2 000 each per quiz team member, and a Mecer tablet each loaded with 5 GBs of data for the use of acquiring the next load of study material on the Independent Online website.

Coach Patson Ngidi spent many hours helping the learners prepare, setting questions and assisting learners to focus on crucial areas.
Leroy Marewangepo (Gr 11), Chiara Amos (Gr 10), Catia Breedt (Gr 10) and Leonah Marewangepo (Gr 11) will continue to prepare with their coach until they participate in the National High School Quiz Final representing Johannesburg.
With continued dedication and hard work, the team aspires to uphold the name of Veritas College and win not only a further R20 000, another R75 000 bursary and another R5000 each, but the title of best Quiz school in the country.
Veritas College continues on its upward trajectory.
