United CC VIII are champions of the LastManStands Benoni/Springs Open 2018

It was kind of a grudge match considering that of the 16 league games United played so far they lost two games and one of that loss was against Benoni Bench Warmers.

United CC VIII were crowned champions of the LastManStands (LMS) Benoni/Springs Open 2018.

Sunday saw the finals of the Benoni/Springs Open 2018 at Hoskings Stadium in Brakpan.

Twelve teams took part in this tournament with the most notable team being Tanks Plumbing from Tshwane, the number one ranked team in the world for LMS according to Owen Chitsinho, LMS administrator.

The semi finals saw Benoni Bench Warmers taking WestRand Alliance from the WestRand and United CC VIII from LMS Benoni/Springs taking on Tanks Plumbing.

Benoni Bench Warmers cruised to the finals after thumping WestRand Alliance.

United CC VIII took advantage of playing at home, knowing what the wicket does and managed to beat Tanks, seeing themselves through to the finals.

The finals saw two LMS Benoni/Springs teams facing each other.

“It was kind of a grudge match considering that of the 16 league games United have played so far, they lost two games and one of those losses was against Benoni Bench Warmers,” says Chitsinho.

United won the toss and opted to bat first.

They posted 210 on the score board with six wickets down in their 20 overs.

Quick knock by Anthony Kruger of United scoring 52 runs off 18 balls as well as Justin Gamble with 67 runs off 30 balls to make sure United posted a defendable score.

Rynaro De Lange , Shaun Fourie and Mark Pearse played magic with the ball, taking 4/3/22, 2/1/6 and 0.1/1/0 respectively.

Benoni Bench warmers struggled in their chase.

George Nel, Benoni Bench Warmers captain tried to play the captain’s role steering his team but fell short.

George knocked 50/37.

Benoni Bench Warmers only managed to score 104 for 8 wickets in 17.1 overs to end up runners up of the tournament.

United CC VIII were crowned champions of the Benoni/Springs Open 2018.

They won R 6 000 which will get them free entrance to the SA Champs 2019.

Justin Gamble of United CC VIII was best bowler of the tournament, Lodie Greeff of Benoni Bench Warmers was the best keeper of the tournament and Anton

Muller of United CC VIII was the best batsman of the tournament.
