Man crashes into wall after diesel spill on Ermelo Road

“When I turned left, I suddenly lost control of the car and drove through the wall and hit a tree in the yard,” says Johann Strydom.

A diesel spill on Ermelo Road on Thursday night caused one driver to drive into the wall of a nearby house.

The spill happened between 7pm and 7.30 pm and covered the area from approximately the Caltex garage and stopped at Town’s End.

Motorists say the diesel came from a truck that was delivering chips in the area.

“I was driving behind a taxi and didn’t see the diesel because the road is quite dark.

“When I turned left, I suddenly lost control of the car and drove through the wall and hit a tree in the yard,” says Johann Strydom, whose car’s bumper was wrecked as a result of the crash.

Strydom had a minor injury to hit wrist.

Other people on the scene, such as the Casseldale CPF and André du Toit from the Strubenvale CPF, say width-wise, approximately 700ml of the road was covered.

“The EMPD helped us and the fire brigade also blocked of the road while gravel was poured on the diesel.

“At the moment, we are trying to find the truck owner because they just ran off the scene and there are damages that need to be paid because of the accidents that happened as a result of the spill,” says du Toit.

The EMPD and Emergency Services failed to respond in time for publication.
