Far East Rand Hospital and Ekurhuleni East College celebrates Mandela Day

“This hospital brings hope to the sick and vulnerable patients who depend on it for their health challenges,” he said.

Senior management, members of the College Council, SRC members and staff members of Ekurhuleni East College from five campuses spent their 67 minutes at Far East Rand Hospital on Wednesday morning.

On the day, the visitors, who are also the friends of the hospital, spent the day cleaning the institution.

They also donated branded coffee mugs with messages of support and encouragement to the staff members in the hospital.

Staff members from the Records and Patient Admin, Nhlanhla Khumalo, Thabiso Mogudi, Lebo Phala, Meme Mahetlane and Portia Moshwani excited to receive a cake from the Ekurhuleni East College.

The college also put a smile on the faces of the staff members as they treated them with a cake, fruit baskets, Madiba t-shirts and caps.

Speaking on behalf of the College Council, chairperson Khulubone Vilakazi encouraged the staff members at FERH to continue with the hard work that they do.

“This hospital brings hope to the sick and vulnerable patients who depend on it for their health challenges,” he said.

He further testified that he is one of the patients whose lives were saved by the institution.

Happy Sibande, who is the principal at Ekurhuleni East College, said the college saw the need to donate to the healthcare workers.

She said the work that the staff members in the public healthcare sector do require someone who will do it with passion and dedication.

“Being a healthcare worker means dealing with people’s lives despite the challenges that you may face. You still need to ensure that you do work for the benefit of the patient,” she said.

She continued to encourage the staff members to do their work with love, care and dedication.

FERH’s Acting CEO, Dr Nkele Lesia thanked the college for what they have done for the hospital.

“Your gesture helps boost the morale of our staff members who are doing their best to ensure quality healthcare services to our patients,” she concluded.
