Striders Athletics Club runs for charity and Mandela Day

The Striders Athletics Club hosted their annual Mandela Day charity walk/run last Sunday.

This charity run has been going on for six years and is aimed at getting donations for people in need.

When they first started the initiative the entry fee was a T-shirt, new or old, and their aim was to get 67 shirts.

However, over the years they have grown from strength to strength and have been able to get far more than they had anticipated.

Last year they received over 1 000 shirts and other donations such as clothes and toys.

All the donations the club receives that are for adults go to the Springs Rotary Club and they distribute them accordingly and the donations for the children go towards the Norah Educare Centre.

Gabbie sponsored refuge bags that were on sale on the day and all the funds accumulated on the day went towards the Norah Educare Centre.

There were items on sale, such as boerewors rolls and some treats that did not have standard prices but worked on a donation basis.

Runners came out in numbers even though it was very cold.
