Community members walk with Vita Nova.

Vita Nova centre hosted a Mandela Day charity walk over this past weekend.

The charity walk/run was a fund-raising event aimed at raising funds and receiving donations for the residents of Vita Nova who are persons with cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism and physically and mentally challenged.

The fee to partake in the walk was R10 and all proceeds went towards the care centre.

This event was not only an opportunity for the centre to raise funds but also gave community members an opportunity to make some income too as they were able to buy space for a stall for R100 and all the money from their sales was theirs to keep.

Grand Gaming was also at the event to show their support and donate a cheque towards the centre and their initiative.

The funds accumulated on the day benefit more than 100 permanent residents.

The centre was accepting all sorts of donations and did not end at just the entry fee for the walk.

The walk was 2km long and the objective was for all members of society who came through to take a Vita Nova resident and walk the 2km’s with them.

Michelle Innelman, who is the director, said the walk was a way to unite the community as there were people from all different walks of life and their churches, schools and companies were involved in this initiative.

The day was a fun day for all and was quite a success.
