Police find money stashed in grave in Langaville

It is alleged the members of the EMPD received a tip-off and acted swiftly on the information.

Langaville – Four people have been arrested in possession of an undisclosed amount of money found hidden in their homes by the members of the EMPD in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The four allege they were hiding the money on behalf of a security official.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago says the metro police pounced on the couple who led them to a shallow grave where the money was hidden inside a trunk.

Some of the money found stashed in Payneville, Springs by the members of EMPD.

“The couple informed the officials about another stash which was hidden in Payneville.

“Two women aged between 40 and 51 were arrested after an undisclosed amount of money was found.

“They revealed they were hiding the money on behalf of a security official,” he says.

Kgasago says they are following all the leads they have to find and arrest the security officer.

“We appreciate the continuous assistance we receive from the residents in working with the police to fight crime,” he says.

When African Reporter, the Springs Advertiser’s sister paper, sought comment from the security company’s communications department, the reporter was referred to their Twitter handle where they released a statement.

They indicated that they are aware of a tweet that implicates one of their employees in the recent heist.

“Authorities have confirmed that this is not a (company) employee.

“Investigations are still underway; we’re committed to working with authorities to apprehend criminals involved in,” the statement says.
