Police: Times and places smash-and-grabbers are most likely to strike in Springs CBD

Springs police warn motorists and residents alike of the high rate of smash-and-grabs as well as theft out of a vehicle, in the Springs CBD.

Capt Johannes Ramphora says this crime usually occurs during peak hours between 5.30am to 8am.

“It also occurs often during the day when parents fetch their children from school between 1pm and 3pm, as well as when the community drives home from work between 4pm and 6pm.”

The following streets were identified by police as high-target areas:

• First Avenue and Second Street,

• Second Street and Second Avenue,

• Fourth Street.

Residents and motorists are warned to lock loose items such as laptops, jewellery, purses and wallets in the boot of their vehicles and keep all the windows closed.

“They must also call the police immediately if they see any suspicious-looking people standing at traffic lights.”

“We hope working with the community will assist the police to curb crime in Springs CBD,” says Ramphora.
