Man with drugs worth over R12 000 arrested

A man was arrested at 3.15pm on Tonk Meter Road on Monday when members of an EMPD unit stopped and searched his vehicle after hours of surveillance.

The surveillance of the suspected drug dealer led to the seizure of narcotics valued at over R12 000.

Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, says EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members put the man, who was suspected of drug dealing, under surveillance for several hours in Springs after receiving a tip-off from a “reliable source”.

“The suspect’s vehicle was stopped and searched on Tonk Meter Road near the Netcare N17 Hospital where various drugs were uncovered in the vehicle,” says Kgasago.

Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle, the metro police came across 25 packets of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of R7 500, 19 packets of Cat valued at R3 800, five packets of heroin valued at R500 and three packets of rock estimated at R300.

The 49-year-old foreign national was detained at Springs Police Station where he was charged with possession and dealing in illicit substances.

He is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
