Money problems could prevent two Springs dance schools from attending the Dance World Cup in Barcelona
Two dance schools from Springs qualify for the Dance World Cup in Barcelona
Studio K and the Sandra Gibson Ballet Academy have qualified for the Dance World Cup in Barcelona.
The event is due to take place in June, and the two dance schools are fund-raising in the hope of getting their dancers to the championships.
Studio K qualified in August last year and owner and teacher Keri Thompson was very proud of her team of seven girls for their performance and dedication.

“I’m really proud of these girls.
“They worked so hard and we practised every day for two hours.
“The teams they were competing against dance professionally, whereas my girls have to balance dancing with school and their other activities,” says Thompson.
The team of dancers, which are between nine and 11 years old, compete in the modern dancing category.
This is the third time the Sandra Gibson Ballet Academy have qualified for this competition.
“This is a big achievement for us as a school.
“There are only 37 dancers from South Africa that were chosen, and of that number, five were from this school,” says owner Sandra Gibson.
The academy has been in Spring for 45 years and is serious about training ballerinas.
“This should be a vocation, not an extracurricular activity,” says Gibson.
The two studios have started various fund-raising activities to get them to Barcelona.
Studio K has been selling raffle tickets to raise money whereas the Sandra Gibson Ballet Academy have been selling hotdogs every Saturday at a local garage.
In additon, the Sandra Gibson Ballet Academy will have a show at the Springs Civic Theatre on May 12 at 6pm to help achieve their goal of dancing at these championships.
There will also be a colour run on May 26.
The two dance schools are appealing to the Springs Community to support them in their efforts.
