Unfinished water treatment plant a concern for Payneville residents

Residents worried contractor will leave the unfinished treatment plant as is.

When residents in Payneville flush their toilets, the water comes back up.

This is because of a damaged sewage pipe that was allegedly struck by the contractor who is allegedly building a water treatment plant.

The problem started just after Easter and has continued since.

“The water doesn’t flow away like it used to.

“It just comes back up and our drains are blocked,” says resident Witness Ndlovu.

The residents allege that they have reported this problem to the metro but the metro allegedly told them to speak to the contractor directly.

The residents are also upset over the lack of communication from the metro.

They allege that they were never told about the construction, what it is was all about and when it will be finished.

Residents are also upset that the contractor is from Limpopo, and question why a local company was not hired.

“I don’t understand how they hit the underground sewage pipe.

“Did they not have a map?” asks Ndlovu.

Residents are worried about the health hazard posed to them by this problem.

They allege the contractor dumps the sewage in a nearby bush and that the smell is horrible.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
