Eleven drunk drivers arrested in Welgedacht
One driver was driving under the influence of alcohol with a six-year-old child in the car.
The EMPD, the K9 and Public Order Policing Units conducted a joint operation in Welgedacht on April 20.
Eleven drunk drivers were arrested on Friday evening.
The roadblock was held because of complaints received of reckless and drunk driving.
The EMPD, K9 and Public Order Policing Units mounted a roadblock at the intersection of Honeysuckle and 1st roads and conducted roadside checks around the area.
The special operation was conducted between 6pm and midnight.

“All the arrested drivers were male with one of them driving under the influence of alcohol with a six-year-old girl in the car.
“The child was taken to her mother who was at work.
“All the arrested drivers were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
“They were detained at Springs Police Station and are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon,” says EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.
