6 Ford models recalled over clutch problem

Ford recalls some of its models after after clutch problem found.

Ford South Africa is recalling six of its models over a clutch pressure problem.

The motoring company says the Ford Focus 1.0L, 1.5L, the Kuga 1.5L, 16.L as well as the Transit Connect and Tourneo Connect 1.0L with manual gearboxes could suffer a clutch pressure plate fracture with the risk of fire.

For Ford drivers in Springs, Beaulin Exley, the service manager at Cassey’s Auto Springs Ford, says, “You must phone for an appointment and once you’ve got an appointment you must bring your car in.

“We will then do an inspection, which takes about a day, and if your clutch is faulty we will fix it and arrange a Ford hire vehicle for you, which takes about two days.”

Ford South Africa further stated that they are working on a software calibration remedy that will detect excessive clutch slippage and warn the driver to take the vehicle to their preferred Ford dealer.

When the software becomes available Ford will notify customers.

The software is expected to be available in May 2018.
