UPDATE: Reward offered for information on Springs’ Coffin Bar murder

The Ekurhuleni East Cluster detectives trio task team under the command of Col Emile Louw are urgently looking for the suspects.

In a previous version of this post, which was also printed in the Springs Advertiser on February 22, page two, the story reflects information provided by the police’s Ekhuruleni East Cluster corporate communication. According thereto, the owner of the well-known and popular Coffin Shoppe bar had been shot and killed.

The Addie has since learnt that this is untrue. The owner, Bonnie Kleyn, is alive and well.

Springs Advertiser herewith corrects the mistake and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The Addie has spoken to the official who has given the incorrect information and he is aware of the matter.

Here is the corrected version:

A substantial reward is offered for information provided regarding two suspects involved in the murder and armed robbery that took place at the Coffin Bar in Selection Park on November 3.

Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, spokesperson of the Ekurhuleni East Cluster, says it is alleged two suspects who were on foot confronted a man and woman while they were leaving the premises.

“The man allegedly went to close the gate, leaving the woman in the car,” says Tshilate.

One of the suspects, who was armed, ran toward the man and fired one shot at him, shooting him on the right side of his chest.

A struggle allegedly ensued as the victim tried to fight off the suspect.

“The suspect fired another shot which hit the victim in the lower body.”

Tshilate further states it was alleged the other suspect took jewellery, two cellphones, car keys and an undisclosed amount of money from the woman.
