Two arrests made in connection with abuse of worker allegedly forced to drink faeces

A Springs man and his son have been accused of heinous acts by a worker.

Two people have been arrested after a worker alleged that his employer forced him to drink faeces on a property in Endicott, Springs.

The worker alleged that the land owner and his son tied him up and forced him to drink a jug of faeces as punishment after he failed to switch on the engine of a septic tank machine.

According to Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora, the man escaped the following evening.

The mechanic’s troubles did not end there, as he was not allowed to open a case against the man and his son at the Springs Police Station the following day because a policewoman at the station allegedly told him he would be arrested for operating a septic tank.

However, when Ramphora heard about the case from the worker, he took action.

“I am the one who insisted the case be opened.

“The man alleges that on December 9 the man ill-treated him and called him the K-word.

“He said the man said to him, ‘I am a Boer. I will show you how these things are done.’”

The man’s son allegedly soon joined him and together they tied the man’s hands together and threw him into the drain hole.

“When the 36-year-old man called me yesterday, he told me that on December 10, when he tried to open a case against the farmer, he was denied that chance.

“I then insisted he come to the office, where I opened the case docket myself.

“I also opened a case of misconduct against the policewoman who refused to help the man.

“I have since found out that this is not the first time the farmer has done something like this.

“There are other cases where he shot at black people for picking up wood on his property.

“I am taking both cases to court and will wait for the state prosecutor to give us the go-ahead when the investigation is over.

“For now, there is a case of misconduct against the policewoman and a case of crimen injuria against the man,” says Ramphora.

There are other cases of alleged abuse by the man that have surfaced, and Ramphora says he will follow up on them.

The man’s wife and son have been arrested on charges of assault, kidnapping and defamation of character.

“The wife was arrested because allegedly she did not help the complainant to escape, intervene when the assault was taking place or report the incident to the police.

“Instead she is reported to have been swearing at him the whole time and kept on calling him a k*****.

“She apparently said to the man: ‘Why do you want to go into the swimming pool?’ when he asked to jump in to wash off the faeces.

“The son was arrested because he allegedly participated in the assault by holding the complainant’s hands while the man was forcing the worker to drink the faeces.”

The police are looking for the man but they have not located him yet as he is believed to be in Pretoria.
