Guards tied up during business robbery

Two security guards were relaxing in a truck when robbers came knocking on the window.

A business robbery took place on January 18 at a construction site in Grootvaly at 8.30pm.

Two security officers were on duty and went to sit in one of the trucks on the premises.

Amanda Greybe, spokesperson for the Springs police says they heard a knock on the passenger side window and saw a male who pointed a firearm at them.

The suspect allegedly told the complainant’s partner to open the door or he will shoot.

The complainant then wanted to open the door on his side to run away but saw three more suspects approach.

After opening the door, the suspects took their uniform jackets and tied the guards up with shoelaces.

They were taken to the guard room where the suspects acquired a set of handcuffs and cuffed the two guards together.

The complainant heard a truck entering the premises which left a short time later.

Thirteen tyres were stolen off two trucks as well as 50 metres of cables.

About R250 000 worth of items were stolen from the trucks and containers.

The suspects fled the scene.
