Springs man shot twice during late-night home invasion

Refusing to open the door for armed robbers, a man was shot twice in his chest.

A house robbery took place around midnight in Augusta Street, Pollak Park Extension Three on January 7.

“Four males entered the premises from the back of the golf course by removing a precast wall slab,” says Amanda Greybe, spokesperson for the Springs Police.

“The suspects allegedly knocked on the front door and requested to enter.”

All suspects were armed and when the owner refused to open the door, they shot three rounds.

“Two rounds hit the owner in his chest.”

The owner’s wife opened the door and two of the suspects entered and ransacked the house.

“They also assaulted the wife by hitting her with the firearm,” says Greybe.

Among the stolen items were the vehicle keys, wedding ring, laptop, touchscreen CPU and cell phones, all to the value of R50 400.

The victim’s neighbour took him to the Far East Rand Hospital for further treatment.

A case of house robbery and attempted murder was opened at the Springs Police station.
