Clothing store in Springsgate robbed

A popular clothing store was robbed at the Springsgate shopping centre last Wednesday at around 10am.

Amanda Greybe, spokesperson of the Springs Police, says two males entered the shop under the guise of customers.

“One suspect pulled out a firearm and told everyone, ‘This is a robbery’,” she says.

The other suspect allegedly took the workers into the storeroom and locked them inside.

“They filled two bags with cell phones.”

A total of 218 cell phones, along with the ones on display, were reported stolen.

The suspects also took R2 000 in cash and fled the scene in an Audi A4.

Afterwards, a customer entered the shop and heard the workers screaming for help.

“The customer allegedly kicked the door open and freed the workers.”

No arrests have been made.
