Springs athletes donate food to SPCA

Much needed funds raised during SPCA Springs Striders Charity Run.

Springs SPCA received a generous cash and much-needed dog and cat food donation from athletes Springs Striders Athletics Club on Sunday.

The donations were handed over to SPCA fundraiser, Debbie Miller after the race.

Miller says they are grateful for the donations and appreciate every effort made by the runners of the club every year.

The 50 athletes left Stable Inn in Strubenvale at 7am for a 5km run or walk.

“The ongoing kindness of the club members does not go unnoticed and it is because of people like you that we can continue our work,” says Miller.

Irene McEvoy had to stand in for Jackie Seddon, chairman of the Striders club, who is currently in Australia for the Iron Man competition.

“The response of the club members are always overwhelming,” she says.

Adélle Bester says the morning 5km run was quite refreshing.

Gerald Robberson, Candice Thompson, Bernice Robberson dressed up in red and called themselves the Reindeer team.

“We had fun and we enjoyed the run,” they say.

Irene Bathgate says the morning walk did her the world of good.

After the donation hand over everyone enjoyed breakfast.

The first club race for 2018 will be the 15/32km Garbie race which will take place on January 21.

The first open race will be the 2018 Dis-Chem Pharmacies Half-Marathon which will take place on January 14, followed by the 2018 Johnson Crane Hire Marathon on January 28 at the Sahara Park Willowmoore, Harpur Avenue, Benoni.
