Seniors’ Christmas lunch at Springs Retirement Village

Senior citizens and guests enjoyed a lovely scrumptious Christmas lunch.

About 150 seniors from Springs Retirement Village (SRV) and other guests were invited to a three-course meal served at the village on Wednesday.

It was their annual Christmas lunch hosted by staff from the village.

Seniors from the cottages and units at SRV, as well as family and friends, attended the lunch held at the village in Twelfth Street.

Special guests were Reverend Charlie Wernich, Pastors Brian Merkel and Jonathan Coates who opened the event with prayer.

They were given this very special treat by the Methodist Home for the Aged.

The dining room and hall were beautifully transformed by the staff and was a visual Christmas treat as the residents came in for lunch.

All catering staff were on hand to help with the preparation and serving of food, but had fun while doing so.

“This act of kindness towards someone who’s old and lonely brings us tremendous satisfaction,” says Ann-lee Posthumus, Springs Retirement Village liaison officer.

These seniors could well feel that this is the best festive gift they’ve been given this year.

“Kindness means the world to them,” she says.

The festive season is a period of great significance for all residents regardless of their background or social status.

“I trust that everyone will enjoy the festive season, be blessed with good health and abundant happiness,” she says.

She asked for everyone to always be mindful of those less fortunate than themselves.

“Remember that the greatest happiness comes from knowing that we have brought joy to the life of somebody else through a simple act of kindness,” says Posthumus.
