Legends show grit against Bende

Liebherr Legends went to the top of the log after beating Gemengde Bende in a drama-filled LastManStands cricket match at Olympia Park sports grounds on Sunday.

The Bende outfit was loaded with talented players like Leon van Vuuren, who currently tops the bowling rankings, as well as Arthur Paddock who has returned to form with the bat.

Bende batted first and scored 120/4 in their allotted 20 overs before their bowling attack choked the Liebherr Legends who lost their seventh wicket in the 11th over.

As expected, van Vuuren did not disappoint with the ball as he took four wickets while only conceding 13 runs in his spell.

Brink Mark was the other top performer for the Bende as he took two wickets while only conceding 17 runs.

The Legends needed something special to see them through and this was exactly what Morne van Eeden delivered as he single-handedly carried his team over the line.

In line with the LastManStand’s rules, van Eden batted on his own for six overs and smashed 87 runs off just 47 balls.

His team won the match with three overs to spare.

The victory saw Liebherr Legends top the table standings with 107 points from 14 matches of which they had only lost one.

In other results, Bench Warmers (138/4) beat Jolly Brothers (137/6/) while Gemengde Bende (149/5) secured a victory over Willowmore (105/8).
