No water at Addie fountain

Springs' distinctive fountain leaves bittersweet taste in a businessman's mouth.

Springs businessman José Celestino has a passion for the town and the Addie fountain situated on the corner of Zig Zag and Nigel roads.

He would like the fountain to be switched on before Christmas so that he can put Christmas lights on the fence to brighten up the entrance from Nigel Road into Springs.

However, despite the gentleman’s agreement between him and the metro, he feels they are not keeping to their side of the bargain.

“The condition of the agreement which took place about a year ago, was that they should keep the fountain going while we maintain the garden.

“The garden looks beautiful, but the fountain however, has not been working for months on end,” says Celestino.

Celestino says he has been in contact with the metro several times with regards to the fountain, but they have not done anything to get the fountain up and running.

“The pump is currently off, but the tap inside the pump house is open and a lot of water is being wasted,” he says.

According to him the pond is also cracked which contributes to the loss of water.

He has planned on putting up Christmas lights on the inside of the fence to brighten up the Nigel Road entrance into Springs.

“The fountain is a landmark that needs to be maintained and without the fountain running, the Addie fountain is meaningless.

“It would look wonderful with the fountain of water and the lights burning at night,” says Celestino.

The metro has apparently informed one of the workers that they are not going to repair the fountain.

Despite sending questions to the metro, they had failed to comment at the time of publishing.
