A seven-year-old boy was shot dead in Slovo Park on Monday morning.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the reason behind the shooting is unclear at this time.
“The boy was with his father at the gate of their home in Durban Drive at 10am when an unknown man called them,” he says.
The man asked for money and pulled out a firearm from his pants.
When the father (age unknown) informed the man he doesn’t have any money the man fired a shot and ran away.
“The bullet hit the boy in his chest and he fell to the ground,” says Ramphora.
The father rushed his son to a nearby hospital but the boy was declared dead on arrival.
“We urge the community to assist us in apprehending the perpetrator,” says Ramphora.
Police are investigating a case of murder.
