Man sustains head injury during CBD business robbery

Springs business owner wounded during business robbery.

A 27-year-old man was shot in the head during a business robbery in Second Street, CBD on Wednesday.

The man alleged he was at the shop at 7.30pm when two suspects entered.

According to Springs police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, both suspects were armed – one with a firearm and the other with a knife.

“They demanded money and the man gave them the money from his pocket, but they demanded more money from the owner of the shop who also gave them money,” says Ramphora.

As the shop owner was about to leave the shop, one suspect fired two shots at the owner which resulted in the shop owner sustaining a head wound.

Ramphora says the suspects ran out of the shop, jumped into a white Toyota sedan where two of their accomplices were waiting for them, and drove off.

The owner was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“We found one cartridge on the scene and are investigating a case of business robbery,” says Ramphora.
