Online registration open for Gauteng learners

The online registration system will be open from November 1-10 for late applications.

The Department of Basic Education in Gauteng is giving parents who missed the June 12 registration deadline a grace period in which to register their children online.

The online registration system will be open from November 1-10 for late applications.

Basic Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi assures parents the system will be up and running smoothly.

“We urge parents who are applying for the first time to make use of this opportunity and apply online.”

In the case of parents who applied during the admissions period in May, but who have still not been placed, they should visit the district office for placement, Lesufi says.

“They need not apply because their details are already on the system.

“A total of 285 834 learners needed to be placed in our schools.

“We have been able to place 222 378, which is 77 per cent of all applicants.

“This figure is a sum total of 123 450 for Grade One and 98 928 for Grade Eight learners.

“We will ensure that all the applicants that applied on time will be placed.

“The parents that have already applied and are awaiting placement must not re-apply. These parents must approach district offices for assistance.”

Lesufi says parents should be aware that several schools are full and cannot accept more learners.

“There are 2 017 Public Ordinary Schools that offer Grade One and Eight, and 402 of these schools received applications beyond their school capacity.

“Space will not be available to parents to submit late applications,” the MEC warns.

“No new applications will be processed in January 2018, as schools are full.”

For further assistance with admission related queries, parents can contact the GDE via its call centre – 0800 000 789 – or email gdeinfo@gauteng.gov.za.

Parents can also visit their nearest district office for assistance.
