Two policemen receive certificate of commendation

“Receiving a certificate of commendation is something I honour.”

Springs residents Cst Jaco Powell and Sgt Sipho Khoza recenty received a Certificate of Commendation for being one of the Top 10 Performing members from April to September.

The Top 10 Commendation certificates are awarded to recognise dedicated or meritorious service to the police pertaining to the support of law and order.

The purpose of these awards is based on the notion that by recognising employees for their excellent/extraordinary performance and special achievements, service delivery will be enhanced.

Both recipients are members of the Benoni Flying Squad.

Khoza was commended for his good work during a Welbekend case when he arrested a suspect who was in possession of three unlicensed firearms at a house in Daveyton.

Benoni Flying Squad spokesperson Sgt Angel Makwazi says Powell was recognised for his hard work and was the best performer for the whole unit during that period.

Powell had recovered almost 200 hijacked or stolen vehicles during the six months period.

According to Powell, he also received a Matrix Award for recovering the most vehicles as well as a Tracker Award in 2015.

He says he only works on alpha priority complaints including armed robberies, ATM bombings, cash in transit heists, hijacking and armed robberies.

“I am honoured to be recognised for my hard work in fighting crime,” says Powell.

Both policemen received their certificates from the their commander, Col Dirk Badenhorst, last Wednesday.
