Police hot on trail of drug dealer

Police's search for a drug dealer in Springs.

A man was seen delivering crystal methamphetamine through a security door of a business in Third Street, CBD on Wednesday.

An EMPD inspector was on routine patrol at noon when he caught a glimpse of a man dropping something into a shop.

According to media spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago the suspect jumped into a white vehicle (model unknown) immediately after the drop-off and drove off.

Curiosity got the better of the officer who decided to get a closer look on what was thrown through the security door and he found two ziplock bags of drugs.

The officer drove around for a while to try and locate the suspect who had dropped off the stuff, but he couldn’t find him or the vehicle.

A woman, who claimed to be the owner of the shop where the drop-off took place, was approached by the officer.

“However, she pleaded ignorance as to why the drugs were dropped off at her business,” says Kgasago.

EMPD K9 Dog Unit was called in for assistance to search the business and the woman’s house, but no drugs were found except for the two packets.

Kgasago says a reliable source pointed out the suspect who delivered the drugs was the woman’s boyfriend.

“We have information of the vehicle used during the drop-off and are confident the suspect will be arrested soon,” says Kgasago.

The confiscated crystal methamphetamine was handed over to police at the Springs Police Station.
