Water leak finally attended to

Minor leak wastes thousands of litres of water

Rand Water began repairing a water leak in Ermelo Road, Casseldale, only on Friday, even though the problem was reported three months ago.

Casseldale resident Antonie Smuts says thousands of litres of precious water have been going to waste.

However, Rand Water workers have dug a hole to start the repairs.

“The hole is currently filled with water due to the leak, but the workers reassured me repair work will start soon,” says Smuts.

At first Smuts was unhappy about the slow response to his complaint.

“This was not the first time the pipe had been leaking.

“The current drought problem prompted me to report it,” he says.

Smuts says he is aware that larger leaks take priority over minor leaks, but to take three months to repair a leak is “unacceptable”.

“The water from a small leak accumulates to a larger amount of clean drinking water going to waste in no time.

“However, now that we have established who is responsible for the repairs, workers will attend to the leak before Friday,” says Smuts.

Rand Water was contacted for comment but none had been received at the time of going to print.
