Book review: The Imaginaeries of Faerie Glen

Written by the same person who wrote the Addie’s Dog’s Blog for a number of years, this children’s book is a delightful look at the faerie folk scampering about the woods nearby.

In fact, some of them may even use your garden as a thoroughfare as they go about their daily activities.

This short book introduces young readers to a wonderland of characters, each with a very defined personality, sharing their woods with one another and the frequent visitors to Faerie Glen (yes the Faerie Glen in Pretoria).

Ginny has a wonderfully expressive way of describing the characters and their individual quirks which makes them spring from the page.

I love the manner in which her book is perfectly aimed at developing younger readers’ imaginations, but also seeks to expand their vocabularies.

While most of the language used is easily understood, there is a peppering of harder words to challenge their reading skills and force them to think about the meanings of these words.

That said it is an easy book for children to read on their own and should definitely be added to your child’s library.
