Community impressed with metro’s quick reaction

“Manholes have become the new refuse dump for vagrants, says Magda Kruyshaar.

A manhole on the corner of Park South Avenue and Seventh Street, CBD, which was filled with refuse and clothes has recently been cleaned by the metro.

When Magda Kruyshaar recently took her child to school at Hoërskool Dr Johan Jurgens, she witnessed homeless people sorting their refuse and old clothes on the corner.

“It is disgusting to watch them throwing what they don’t need anymore into the open manhole,” she says.

When she addressed these people they became aggressive and started swearing at her.

She says they asked her where they must throw their stuff.

“I reported the open manhole to the metro two weeks ago and was impressed to see they have closed it properly with cement and replaced the cover,” she says.

Kruyshaar says the metro also fixed a leaking water meter next to the manhole.

“I have noticed several open manholes were recently replaced by the metro.

“Metro’s quick reaction to our queries does not go unnoticed,” she says.
