September Mashabela of Dersley Park has been without electricity since August 24.
This comes after he received a message on August 23 from the municipality saying his electricity bill was overdue.
Mashabela says he went to pay the outstanding amount the day after receiving the message and he was told that his account had been settled.
He left home on Thursday and returned on Saturday only to be surprised by a pool of water under the fridge and a horrible smell emanating from the spoilt food in the fridge.
“When I came back I noticed the meter clamp had been disconnected so I immediately called the call centre to notify them,” says Mashabela.
“The agent I spoke to referred me to the Springs municipality where I would receive further assistance.”
Mashabela says he called the municipality three times and was told the metro workers would come to sort out the issue but no one had came to fix it until Wednesday.
He says he has been without electricity for almost a week and no one has came to fix the electricity clamp.
Mashabela feels the municipality is not taking residents’ concerns into account.
“I’m disappointed by what is happening because when they send us official messages to pay, we pay immediately with no hassles,” says Mashabela.
“Now they have disconnected my electricity and I’ve paid the full amount, but I now need to wait for them for more than five days to come and fix the meter clamp.”
He also has complained about not receiving statements pertaining to rates, for months.
Mashabela says not receiving the statements has inconvenienced him as he had to go to the municipality to get print-outs when the statements should have been sent to him.
“It’s such an inconvenience having to wait in a long line for a print-out of the statements, while I still need to attend to my work.”
The metro had failed to respond at the time of publishing.
