Daggafontein structures only temporary

Owners say structures on property in only temporary.

In response to the Daggafontein Voluntary Communal Property planned at Daggafontein Extension Two, the association committee commented as follows:

Aubrey Noqara, chairman of the Daggafontein Voluntary Communal Property Association says the committee consists of 23 members who bought the property on the corner of Lyster Avenue and Fisheagle Road in Daggafontein Ext Two.

To enable the property owners to build their own houses, they first need approval from the metro for sub-division of the property as well as their building plans.

Currently, there are no water and sanitation nor any electricity available on the property marked as Phase Three.

Noqara says they understand the concern of some of the residents but would like to reassure them these structures erected on the property are only temporary.

“We have to wait for the metro for water, sanitation and electricity before we can even consider building our houses, which we do have proper building plans for,” he says.

According to Rudi Bouwer from the association’s management company, the houses planned for the property are not for an informal settlement.

“The committee saved up a lot of money and combined the total to buy the property, which was registered in January.

“They are also paying rates and taxes just like the current residents, therefore, we ask the community, please be patient with the process to allow these men and women to build their dream houses on the property they legally purchased,” says Bouwer.

Committee member Ntokozo Dlamini says the metro and ward Clr Shadow Shabangu promised to assist them with one water point and chemical toilets for the time being.

“The people cannot live in these temporary houses without water and sanitation,” says Dlamini.

However, by the time of going to print, no comment was received from the metro or the councillor.
