Refuse removal in Selcourt back on track

The metro is back on schedule with refuse removal.

Failure to remove refuse in Selcourt and Selcourt Enclsoure is still frustrating residents.

According to Selcourt Enclosure resident Angie Buhalie the bins were not emptied for three weeks.

She also complained about the stench coming from the refuse piling up in the bins.

“When waste is left for a long period, it attracts rats. Before you know it there will be a rodent infestation,” she says.

Buhalie says scavengers are another problem they face.

Bruce Gardner from Selcourt Enclosure complained about the lack of service.

He says the metro should inform the community through the media when they have problems regarding the removal of refuse.

“Residents could probably then try to take their refuse to a landfill site,” he adds.

“We strive to keep our refuse inside the bins but when the scavengers get hold of the black bags, they make a terrible mess,” she says.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe says the removal of refuse in the Selcourt area is back on track.

Refuse was not removed according to the waste calendar because of a shortage of vehicles.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” says Gadebe.
