Vita Nova and company celebrate Mandela Day

Vita Nova Centre celebrated Mandela Day on Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

Face painting, balloon characters and a photo booth were set up by the steel company that was the main sponsor of the event.

A Mr and Mrs Vita Nova pageant was held for the residents of the centre, followed by a 2.9km walk for transformation.

This was followed by entertainment and dancing which was enjoyed by all the guests and the centre’s residents.

Shadow Shabangu, ward councillor for the area, says he chose to support the centre on Saturday and to give his time for the 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

He also participated in the walk for transformation.

The Rotary Club of Springs spent the day at Vita Nova for Mandela Day.

“We are currently busy with a project to convert all 33 geysers to solar power for the centre,” says Cheryl Havenga from the Rotary Club of Springs.

The first two geysers, located in the kitchen, were converted on Tuesday.

“With this project, we plan to reduce their electricity bill and by giving them a way to keep saving throughout the year.

“If anyone would like to get involved in this project to help the centre, you can contact me on 082 458 0566 or Siobheanne Landsberg on 082 489 5090,” Cheryl says.

Ka-ttitude, a non-profit organisation that sterilises feral cats, also attended the event at Vita Nova and sold pancakes, giving part of the profit to the Vita Nova Centre.
