Light at the end of the tunnel for Markville residents

After two years of complaints and stories in this newspaper, repairs to the lift at the Marksville Flats may start in the third week of August.

The specification bid of implements needed to repair the lift, was not submitted to the Bid Specification Committee (BSC) and so the metro contracted consultants to update the scope of work.

Metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, says they have included eight buildings, including the Markville housing complex, in the specification.

The Bill of Qualities (BOQ) will also be drafted for each of the properties.

“Once the report is finalised, within three weeks from June 30, the item will go to BSC for noting and approval to seek quotations from Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) contractors.

“In essence we are trying to procure contractors on the already existing EPMO contract,” says Gadebe.

The metro expect the scope, and report from the consultants, to be completed by July 21.

“Once these reports have been received, approximately two weeks would be needed for BSC approval.

“The EPMO have already confirmed availability of their mechanical contractors,” he says.

According to him various contracts have already been appointed by BSC and those contractors were asked to assist.

“We opted to use the existing contractors from EPMO (internal department) and if all goes according to plan, we might start with construction in the third week of August,” says Gadebe.
