Hip-hop awards coming to Springs

Young entrepreneur Tshepo Moagi, founder of Ppheenix Family Recording Company, is bringing the prestige of music awards to Springs.

Springs – Tshepo Moagi, founder of Ppheenix Family Recording Company, is bringing the prestige of hip-hop music awards to Springs.

“I wanted to do something that would inspire local artists and give them some recognition.

“That is how I came up with the concept of the Springs Hip-Hop Awards,” Tshepo says.

The young entrepreneur says he aims to impart knowledge and provide a platform for young upcoming artists.

Tshepo says although hip-hop has been making waves internationally, the messages that it spreads are often negative.

“We want to focus on artists who are inspiring the youth to do the right things, not drinking, drugs and girls.”

He adds that he wants to encourage upcoming artists to keep working hard because their big break will come eventually.

“Our first annual event was expected to occur on April 15, but due to the lack of marketing we feel people were not really aware of it.”

After going back to the drawing board, Tshepo and his team created enough hype to draw more than 150 entries.

“Currently the voting lines are open and we have received over 5 000 votes.”

The awards will take place on July 1 at the Springs Theatre, from 4pm.
