SAPS woman’s case postponed

The Springs policewoman who allegedly poisoned her two children appeared in the Springs Regional Court on Friday.

She is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.

The case was postponed to August 15 for further investigation.

KwaThema police spokesperson Capt Thabo Sibuyi says the case was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“The DPP will decide whether the case will be transferred to the High Court or not,” says Sibuyi.

On September 1, the KwaThema mother allegedly fed her two children, aged four years and 10 months, rat poison mixed with yoghurt, before poisoning herself, at her home in KwaThema.

The mother and her two children were taken to a nearby hospital, where the 10-month-old baby died en route.

“She was granted bail at her first court appearance on September 16, two weeks after she was discharged from

hospital,” says Sibuyi.

The woman’s bail of R2 000 was extended.

“As per court arrangement, the policewoman is still allowed to see her four-year-old son under the supervision of a social worker,” says Sibuyi.
