Robber drops knife when woman (76) wrestles with him

A suspect dropped the knife he was using to rob a business Fourth Avenue, Geduld, on Saturday as the 76-year-old owner tried to stop him.

The suspect entered the shop at 10am, and pretended to be a customer.

“When the owner (76) approached him, he pulled out a knife and threatened her,” says Capt Johannes Ramphora SAPS spokesperson.

The suspect allegedly demanded cash.

After the owner informed the suspect she didn’t have any cash, he went behind the counter and took a R100 note.

Ramphora says the suspect was about to flee the scene when the owner tried to stop him.

“During the struggle, the robber dropped a bag and the knife before he fled the scene, ” says Ramphora.

The owner, who also fell to the ground during the struggle, sustained no injuries.

“We confiscated the knife,” says Ramphora.
