BREAKING: Second sex den discovered in Springs

Local actor caught up in alleged human trafficking saga.

A local actor was arrested in connection with a human trafficking ring in Third Street, CBD on Wednesday evening.

He is is one of 17 people arrested in this, the second alleged human trafficking den bust in Springs in the last week.

The 21-year-old actor from a popular TV soap was among 17 suspected human traffickers who were arrested on Wednesday.

SAPS spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubela says the group is currently being held at the Springs cells.

“A 25-year-old woman, who had managed to escape from the house, reported the sex den to the police on Wednesday,” he says.

The woman was accompanied by a child (age unknown).

“The woman claims she was held in the house against her will and fears for her life,” he says.

Makhubela could not confirm if the child was a victim in human trafficking.

Among the group of 17 suspects were 11 women and 5 men, ranging in age from 19 to 42.

Makhubela says among those arrested was a Nigerian man who was allegedly claiming money from these woman and the actor.

Police cannot claim, at this stage, whether he is responsible for running the brothel.

“We confiscated a large amount of male and female condoms,” he says.

The complainant and the child are currently at to a place of safety.

Makhubela says: “The group was charged with human trafficking and sexual exploitation.”

They will appear in court soon.
