Rotary recognises two businesses
Two local business received Rotary Certificates of Appreciation from Springs Park Rotary Club on Thursday evening.
President of the club, Ueli Hiller, honoured Ana Caldeira from Strubenvale Pick n Pay, Gerrie Mostert from Choice Foods and Annette van Lill, a Cansa volunteer.
“By definition Rotary is an organisation of business and professional persons united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world,” says Hiller.
After giving this brief definition to what Rotary is, and how they operate in the community, Hiller explained that during the Rotary year the club plans and organises a number of fundraising projects.
He says the funds raised during these events assist those in the community in need.
“We need assistance from the community or businesses to enable us to achieve our project goals,” he says.
The club recognised two businesses in Springs who have unselfishly given of their resources and products to help the club to successfully complete their fundraising and community service projects.
“Choice Foods have continuously assisted us whether it be the loan of a refrigerated truck, ice blocks or chicken products.
“We are grateful for their services,” says Hiller.
Ana Caldeira from Pick ‘n Pay Strubenvale, was honoured by the Rotarians for her continued generosity.
Hiller says her assistance does not go unnoticed by the Rotarians.
“Particularly when it comes to our food donations to needy organisations in Springs.
“She has always assisted us with generous donations of food hampers, particularly
at Christmas time and also with the fresh fruit delivery to Vita Nova every second week.
“Receiving the certificate is a great honour as we always help the community where and when we can,” says Caldeira.
Annette van Lill was recognised for her volunteer work at the Cansa Assocation Toktokkie drive, volunteer councillor at iThemba Hope Pregnancy Crisis Centre and tutor at Mefiboset Centre for the mentally handicapped.
The Rotarians feel van Lill fully lives up to Rotary’s motto Service above Self.
