SOB loses by one wicket

The last cricket match of the season between Springs Old Boys and Bedfordview Premium turned out to be a cliff-hanger on Sunday.

SOB won the toss and batted first, with a steady opening partnership of 67 runs for the first wicket between Gustav van Heerden, who scored 30 runs, and Ferdi Delport, who scored 23 runs.

Rickus Neethling’s 47 runs and Kyle Dabner’s 25 runs were all contributed by the batsmen.

Bedfordview made good bowling from Jason Smith (five overs, one maiden, 13 runs and one wicket), restricting Springs Old Boys to 186 runs.

Bedfordview’s opening batsman Riaan van Aardt scored 55 runs, chasing down the score with fantastic fielding by SOB.

SOB put Bedfordview under constant pressure as the Springs bowlers were excellent.

The wicket-taking onslaught was led by Neill Joubert with 10 overs, two maidens, 38 runs and seven wickets; Rickus Neethling with 10 overs, two maidens, 18 runs and one wicket; and Gustav van Heerden with 10 overs, two maidens, 32 runs and one wicket.

In the end Bedfordview won by one wicket, scoring the runs in the 49th over.
