Training for the fitness challenge

George Stander is training Danny Painter for the fitness challenge between her and fellow East Rand Stereo presenter Herman Human.

Aside from getting fit and enjoying a healthier lifestyle, the two are raising money for charity.

Danny is supporting the Springs SPCA.

George, who works from Vitafit in Brakpan, spoke to the Addie about himself and his goals for Danny.

“I’ve been involved in various sports activities since an early age and was privileged to compete at provincial and SA level in most of them.

“I’ve studied Sport Science and am busy writing a book which I want to call The Ultimate Health Challenge,” he says.

” I’ve also had the wonderful privilege of being trained by some of the best coaches in the various sports I was involved in and started training other athletes 21 years ago on an ad-hoc basis and as a part-time hobby.

After retiring as a forensic auditor, George started training others full-time four years ago and comments: “In the past three years I’ve managed to train three athletes to world competitive status.”

In terms of his game plan for Danny, he says he is structuring a supportive eating plan to achieve maximal benefit in terms of fat loss and muscle maintenance.

This is being complemented by a good training programme to activate different metabolic actions in the body to enhance effective energy expenditure and muscle growth.

“Our training programme is based on high intensity training across multiple natural planes of movement to call up multiple and bigger muscle groups to burn

maximum energy.

“Each workout should include agility and speed, power and strength and core and flexibility training.”
