SAPS discover three bodies in Selection Park

Benoni SAPS Search and Rescue Unit found a third body in a quarry on the corner of Coaton and Tonk Meter roads, Selection Park today (Friday).

The search continued after two bodies were found floating in the quarry on Thursday at 6pm.

According to Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora, a security guard was on routine patrol when he saw the two bodies floating in the quarry.

The Benoni Search and Rescue Unit led by Lt Col Reuben Hattingh removed the two bodies from the water.

Ramphora says the bodies were those of men and had allegedly been in the water “for what appears to be quite some time,” as they were already decomposed.

The deceased are unknown.

“We urge the community to come forward if they have any information on the identity of the deceased,” he says.

Brig Thandeka Gwebushe, Springs station commander, expressed her appreciation and sincere thanks to the SAPS units involved in removing the three bodies from the water.

“It is believed the rescue unit will continue their search to see if there are more bodies in the quarry on Friday,” says Ramphora.
