Sassa beneficiaries will get grants

Beneficiaries will receive their monthly social grants on April 1, this is according to a press release received from the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) on Wednesday.

Sassa spokesman Nandi Mosia says there will be no disruptions to the system.

The agency has been inundated with concerns regarding what will happen after the current social grant payment contract with their paymaster contractor expires at the end of March.

“This is understandable, given the fact that the current contract was declared invalid, however, the invalidity declaration was suspended,” she says.

Sassa presented a plan on how social grants will be paid out from April to the social development portfolio committee in parliament on Wednesday.

“This presentation will clarify all perceived uncertainties that interested parties have expressed. Therefore, there is no need for panic from the side of beneficiaries,” says Mosia.

She says Sassa has a responsibility to deliver quality service to beneficiaries without system hiccups and therefore they had to follow a thorough process to determine the best solution.

“We will ensure that grants are received unimpeded as required by the Social Assistance Act,” she says.

If beneficiaries have any uncertainties they should contact 0800 60 10 11 for more information.

“Further communication and directive will follow soon on the approved way forward,” says Mosia.
